Jogashima Island

I wasn't feeling well this last week but we had a 3 day weekend so there was no way we weren't going to attempt one fun thing before Matt left again. So we chose Jogashima Island which is at the very tip of the Miura peninsula about a 50 minute drive from Yokosuka. There is a fish market on the peninsula and the island has some beautiful rock formations, caves and great shell collecting. It was a super windy day and you can see from the slant of the trees that the wind must blow quite often!

This is what the shore was like and it was filled with cowrie shells. We collected a huge pile of them.

 Holly was "sweeping" with the seaweed she found.

 There was this tunnel carved into the rocks that we suspect was done in WW2. We went back into it and it got creepy and buggy. Cady and I came running out when we found the bugs above our head but Matt continued on to some steps. There was lots of mud so he didn't get to see what was beyond.

After the island we went to the fish market area to try their specialty - big eyed tuna. We happened upon a festival and sat down at table for a snack. It turns out we sat down with the owner of a few of the food stalls and he brought us beer and more snacks:) 

 Cady was lured onto the dance floor by a face-painted man. :)

 The tuna was delicious. We just got two of these boards with 8 pieces of sushi on them for about $15.
